Toy safety standards - IS 9873 Dec 06, 2017

India DGFT announced on September 1, 2017 a major requirement for India to strengthen the safety requirements of toys. The relevant requirements require that the toy manufacturer must, from now on, provide a test report of all imported toys to demonstrate compliance with the new IS 9873 standard.

The new regulations require that toys imported to India must comply with the standards set by the Indian Standards Agency (ISIS), IS9873 and IS15644.

The new regulations include electric toys, that is imported electric toys must meet the standards set by the Indian Bureau of Standards (ISIS) IS15644 (electric toy safety regulations); also add activities such as swing and slides for toys and finger pain.

The new regulations require that the imported toy samples be tested by independent laboratories accredited by the National Testing and Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Association of India. Previously, it’s ok as long as pass the test of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Organization and mutual recognition of the organization. In this regard, many manufacturers said they do not know what the independent laboratories that are recognized by the Indian National Testing and Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Association are?
